
We didn't hold meeting with Kachikwu - Avengers
Militants of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), yesterday said that they did not hold any closed-door meeting with Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu.
The group described as false, online media report claiming that it participated in closed-door meeting with the Minister Wednesday, in Asaba, Delta State.
Making the clarification in a tweet on their tweeter handle, the group debunked the online report, saying that it did not hold any dialogue with the minister.
According to the militants, anybody that claimed to have represented it at the meeting was a “political jobber.”
Part of the tweet read; “We want to say it’s a lie and anybody parading themselves as Niger Delta Avengers’ (NDA) representatives are political jobbers.”
The AUTHORITY on Saturday however learnt that there was a meeting between representatives of the Federal Government and stakeholders from the riverine areas, particularly Gbaramatu Kingdom and parts of Warri South Local Government Area.
Some participants of the meeting included Dr. Kachikwu, Delta State governor, Sen Ifeanyi Okowa, a senior security aide to the governor, Mr David Tonwe; Chief Daniel Ekpebide who represented Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief Ayiri Emami representative of Itsekiri ethnic group among others.
The meeting was said to have highlighted the issues of bombings as well as other issues affecting the region during which the participants were said to have agreed on the imperative of peace in the region and the need for the militants tyo end the spate of bombings.
Sen Okowa was said to have been advised to set up a reconciliation committee to amicably settle the differences among them.
